Hive Classroom – Terms of Use

 

Welcome to Hive Classroom, the digital learning and management platform of Learning Hive Christian Academy (LHCA). These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Hive Classroom website, portal, and associated services (collectively, the “Platform”).

By accessing or using Hive Classroom, you agree to comply with these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Platform.

1. Eligibility and User Roles

1.1 Students: Access is restricted to enrolled pupils of LHCA from Reception (Kindergarten) to Year 6. Students may only use the Platform under the supervision of a parent/guardian or teacher.

1.2 Parents/Guardians: Parents may access the Platform to monitor their child’s learning progress, view reports, and communicate with teachers.

1.3 Teachers and Staff: Teachers may use the Platform to manage classroom activities, assignments, attendance, communication, and related educational functions.

1.4 Administrators: System Administrators and School Administrators have access rights for system configuration, user management, and compliance oversight.

2. Acceptable Use

Users agree to use Hive Classroom solely for educational and administrative purposes. You must not:

  • Upload, post, or share content that is unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, or inappropriate for children.

  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or data.

  • Circumvent or disable security features (e.g., login protections, encryption).

  • Misuse student/parent/teacher information for non-educational or commercial purposes.

  • Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity.

  • Use the Platform to harass, bully, or exploit others.

Violation of this section may result in suspension or termination of access and potential disciplinary/legal action.

3. Account Security

  • Users are responsible for keeping their login credentials confidential.

  • Teachers and parents must immediately notify administrators of any suspected unauthorized access.

  • The school enforces password policies, including encryption, hashing, and account lockouts after failed attempts.

  • Shared accounts are strictly prohibited.

4. Content Ownership and Intellectual Property

  • Educational content (lesson plans, resources, assignments) uploaded by teachers remains the intellectual property of LHCA.

  • Student work uploaded to Hive Classroom remains the intellectual property of the student but may be stored and processed for educational purposes.

  • Hive Classroom software, design, and materials are the property of LHCA and its licensors. Users are granted a limited, non-transferable right to use the Platform solely for school-related purposes.

5. Data Protection and Privacy

  • Hive Classroom processes personal data in accordance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843) and the school’s Privacy Policy.

  • Personal data collected may include student records, parent contact details, academic performance, attendance, and communications.

  • Data is stored securely on a cloud server with encryption, access controls, and monitoring.

  • For details on data handling, retention, and sharing with third-party service providers (e.g., Email, Cloud, SMS), please refer to the Privacy Policy.

6. Communication Tools

  • Parents and teachers may use Hive Classroom messaging features for school-related communication only.

  • All communication must remain respectful and professional.

  • Abuse of communication features may result in restricted access.

7. Third-Party Services

Hive Classroom may integrate with third-party services (e.g., Email Delivery Provider, Bulk SMS Provider, Hosting Provider). While these integrations are carefully vetted, LHCA is not responsible for the policies, practices, or content of external services.

8. Service Availability

  • Hive Classroom strives for 24/7 availability but does not guarantee uninterrupted access.

  • Planned maintenance or unforeseen outages may temporarily affect accessibility.

  • LHCA shall not be held liable for any learning disruption caused by downtime.

9. Disciplinary Measures

  • Misuse of the Platform may result in suspension or permanent termination of accounts.

  • Disciplinary actions for students may also follow school regulations and policies.

10. Limitation of Liability

  • Hive Classroom and LHCA are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from use or inability to use the Platform.

  • The Platform is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis, without warranties of any kind, except as required by law.

11. Amendments to Terms

LHCA reserves the right to update these Terms at any time. Updates will be communicated through the Platform. Continued use after changes signifies acceptance of the revised Terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Ghana, including the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
